Unproductive on Purpose

Well, ever since I started working I’ve grown to appreciate weekends a lot more. With the busy hectic life on weekdays, the weekends are never enough to rest and compensate for the weekdays. Firstly, there will be this list of important and unimportant to-dos (but most of the time none of them gets done). I’ll just laze the day away doing nothing – unproductive on purpose. And when it comes to end of Sunday, I find myself wishing I had one more day of weekend, sigh…

Today (Friday) happens to be a public holiday, which means I have a 3 day weekend! Just the thought of it puts me in a cheerful mood. I think it’s a combination of the long weekend, Thanksgiving and Christmas is just round the corner. I feel like prancing and dancing in joy hahaha…

HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Muacks...XOXO!

Nikonian Academy

It's in been a while since i've posted anything on my blog.... Got lots of a big list of things to post up actually, but i never got to it... and now i've forgotten my list.... Haha i seem to have a bit of problem remembering things nowadays...must have caught the forgetful virus from Keith....

Today i'm posting up the photos i took in Nikonian Academy class. Have i mentioned? I won the free class from a lucky draw of 150 person! Never have i been so lucky in my life...hehe. I learned a lot from this class. I guess i just jumped straight into photography when i started, without learning the basic stuff. This class had helped me come to terms with all the basic know hows of the DLSR camera.

Alyssa - Peranakan Mansion

After buying my SB600 flash, i realized that flash is damn essential for photography. Don't asked me how i survived so long without it for so long. I have no idea either. So this photoshoot session is modeled by Alyssa at the Peranakan Mansion at Church Street. Photo #8 is my favourite and photo #5 there seems to be a ray of light from above (i think it's so cool or maybe i'm a little sohai). So click the picture below to check out the pictures.

Water Baptism

Water baptism is a big event in one's life. Last Sunday, our friend Whinnie decided get herself baptised. All of us (Keith, Fiona, Nel, Boogz and I) attended to render our full support. I also took the opportunity to snap a few pictures and get it going again. I'm getting a little rusty at photography as i have not touched my cam for quite some time due to work and other stuff etc...

Water baptism is actually pretty interesting...click here to check out the pics.

Armenian Street Photowalk 09

Finally i got a chance to go for photo-outing with photography sifus (Malcolm, PH, Hans and Chuan). Sifus proven to be pros take much lesser shots than noobs and get better shots. Mine was all trial and error...but i'm pretty happy with some of the composition. I wanted to get a shot of a ray of light, but aparently i learnt that you can't do that without particles like mist/smoke. I tried to get Hans to smoke in the temple but my request was turned down haha...too bad.

After the morning photo-outing, we had a photo-sharing session at QB mall later that day. We shared unprocessed pictures, straight out from the camera. I swear i was blushing during the session. Paiseh with my not on par photos....still noob la!

Nag and Valli's Joyful Bundle (Part 2)

YN lost his mojo in the previous photoshoot and requested for a reshoot the next week. I am particularly happy about this photoshoot as i got many pictures out of very few shots. Being in the comfort of their own home, the models seem to be much more at ease and it was a great session.

Stand-A-Lone Shots

Sometimes, when we go for photoshoots, we end up shooting some unrelated random pictures that just don’t fit into the album or theme for the day. Some of these pictures are my personal favourites and it’s such a waste to see them sitting on my hardisk unpublished. Hence, from today onwards I’ve decided to continuously blog about these stand-alone photos.

I like this photo a lot because it is very different from the typical pictures I ussually take. I like the way the light comes in from the window and falls on the subject. Yeah the pose is a bit weird, I will have to pay more attention and direct the model better next time. But nevertheless, I love the feel of this picture.

This was taken at a pond in spice garden. The dragonfly took our attention away from the model. I like this because somehow I just like it haha…

Nag and Valli's Joyful Bundle

This is a long dued assignment that our group had planned. We had so much activities going on in the past few weeks that time has passed us by in a blink of an eye. We had always talked about photographing Nag (one of our fellow group member)'s wife during her maternity. But we never found time until last Sunday, we decided that we cannot push out this agenda any further as Valli (Nag's wife) is already 8 months pregnant. Last Sunday was really hazy, luckily there was a short downpour that cleared the sky. I am quite contented with my work this time around...hope you will find nice too.

Graffiti

It really feels weird to post a portraiture series of myself. Ussually behind the lense, this time i decided to entertain my friends and became a model instead. This is when i realized that being a model is so much harder than being the photographer. Being a photographer, you just have to direct the model on the poses and take a few shots from different angles then you are done! Can step aside and rest while waiting for other fellow photographers to complete their shots. Being a model is real torture. You have to hold your pose under the scorching sun waiting for each photographers to take their turn! I really felt like i was a BBQ chicken instead of an elegant model hahaha...

Hope that the effort was worth it.

Baby Irfan

I've always wanted to create a photomontage of babies. My chance came when my colleague gave birth to a healthy 3.5kg baby boy 4 days ago. Cute little baby Irfan is my first album on babies. Hope you like it!

Light Trails

Setting up my camera on a tripod with a flash in front of E&O, I took 42 shots, trying to capture a nice trail of lights as the cars pass by. Only 2 (below) worked out fine. Although I only got 2 shots that passed the criteria, I’m quite satisfied as this is my first attempt photographing light trails.

Siew Eng and Ah Ghee's Pre-Wedding Photos

I am really happy that i got the opportunity to tag along with Adrian for Siew Eng's pre-wedding photoshoot. It was an eye-opening experience and i learnt so much in a day! Thanks Adrian, Matthew, Sher Ren, Yoong Nian and Teong Keat for all the advice, pointers and the huge amount of photography gadgets. (There were all together 8 flashes, the models were being blinded and we really felt as if we were paparazi). Not to forget, big thanks to Siew Eng and Ah Ghee for being such patient models.

My first SLR property :P

I finally did it! Today i bought MY VERY OWN 18-105mm lense! This is definately a significant milestone in my journey as a learning photographer. When i started photography 4 months ago, i would not even consider spending RM100 on camera equipment. Yeah i was interested in photography and was always carrying my beloved digital camera around, but i definately would not consider even spending 1micropercent pie share of my pay on any equipment. Not when you have so many shoes, bags, tops, skirts and dresses to buy hahaha.

I loaned the D70 from Keith since he has a new D300 baby already and i borrowed a 15-55mm w/o VR lense from Malcolm. Good deal huh? I started learning to use SLR camera without even spending a penny. But as time passed i realized that the 15-55mm is no longer good enough for me. I need a better lense that can zoom further, take sharper pics and better portraits. But as ussual, i'm all for economy economy economy. Hence i got 18-105mm which i think is a lense that can "pau ka liau" (good for all purpose - group photos, portraits, lanscapes blah blah blah). One lense for all! I don't want to carry too many lenses around and i'm damn clumsy when it comes to changing lenses and also carrying too many things around of course. Some say its good, some say its bad. But let's let the pictures speak for the lense!

Can't wait to try it out in Siew Eng's pre-wedding photoshoot tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Garage [SALE] - Chandler AZ 09 :)

Last Saturday, Keith brought me to my first garage sale. I did not expect to buy anything , but i ended up with loads of stuff which are dirt cheap. Waking up at 6.30am to go shopping is worth it after all as we managed to get good bargains. Highlight of it all, there was this book i was eyeing at the bookstore which cost over RM30 at Penang...i bought it for USD1.00 :D.

Here's the list of puchases:
CSI Board Game - USD1.00
Pictionary Board Game - 25 cents
Book - USD1.00
Hard Rock shot glass x 2 - 25 cents each
Metal Lighter - 50 cents
Song CD - USD 1.00

After lunch we went to Ritz to check out some camera deals and we saw this cool vintage car...which we took some photos too. Haha.
